This is complete and utter woke Orwellian brainwashing by a college that should be promoting free-thinking.

(I do know that Big Brother at SUNY Orange is watching my social media posts. I was told by my supervisor to "be careful" of what I post on social media. Keep in mind that I never signed anything with the college concerning my behavior outside of the classroom. And, actually, the only thing that I "signed" with the college is how much dough I would make each semester.)

In 2010, I started teaching at SUNY Orange with a course that I had created, Sequential Art: Comics Illustration; a class on creating comic books and comic strips. I also taught Design 2 and Intro to Art.

I’ve very much enjoyed teaching. Teaching Sequential Art: Comics Illustration created in me a very real passion to contribute to the lives of young artists. Helping students, offering them my knowledge and experience, was the most fulfilling thing that I have ever been a part. I felt that I was making a difference in young peoples’ lives, and I would like to continue doing that.

Still, on February 25th, 2020, I was called into SUNY Orange’s Human Resource Department. The Associate Vice President Human Resource instructed me, in essence, that my behaving like a Christian at SUNY Orange was (and I quote) “unprofessional.”

After the meeting, I sent an email to the Associate Vice President Human Resource:

“In regards to the way I write e-mails… as I stated in our meeting, I am a Christian. I am not ashamed of the Gospel message. You cannot expect me to not be a Christian when I write e-mails specifically when I close an e-mail with ‘in Christ Jesus.’

I’d like to remind you of the First Amendment of the United States Constitution:

‘Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the government for a redress of grievances.’

If it was professional enough and good enough for Thomas Jefferson, when he was President of the United States of America, to end his letters with ‘in Christ Jesus,’ then I believe that it’s professional enough and good enough for anyone else to do the same when they are so inclined.”

A follow up email from the Associate Vice President Human Resource did not even mention, nor address, my being a Christian.

(During this whole mess, I had, several times, e-mailed the Teacher's Union who responded with: “Much of what you've shared with me does not seem to be union issues, but thanks for keeping me in the loop.” The Teacher’s Union is feckless.)

It has been very clear to me that SUNY Orange is not an institution friendly to Christians, Free Speech, nor the Freedom of Religion. Nowadays, I wonder why any parent would send their children to a college like SUNY Orange. They stifle Speech and religious freedom.
